I needed one hat for my good coat and another for my anorak — this one does both

One hat for the good wool coat and the old anorak alike — that's the whole story, and it's freed up a shelf. I'm 67, and my hat collection had become a puzzle: a smart one that only looked right with the camel coat for church, a woolly one for the anorak on dog walks, and neither of them ever by the door when I needed it.

What I wanted was one hat that looked right with whatever I'd grabbed off the hook.
