The comfy trainers I can walk all day in that still look smart

I'm 67, and I'm on my feet a good deal — walking my dog Winnie, popping to the shops, into town of a morning. For ages my only comfortable shoes were clumpy sporty trainers that I felt looked all wrong on a woman my age, and the neater ones left my feet sore by lunchtime.

That was the bind. The comfortable trainers look bulky and like you're off to the gym, and the smart ones pinch. All I wanted was proper all-day comfort in something that still looked tidy with a pair of trousers.

Then I found the Bexley sneakers from a British label called York Boutique — breathable court trainers, in the summer sale. I chose the navy and white.

They've been just the thing. The upper is breathable so my feet don't get hot, there's a cushioned insole and a light, flexible sole, and the classic court shape looks smart rather than sporty. They lace up, so I get a proper fit, and I can be out for hours.

Comfortable enough for miles, smart enough for town. I practically live in them.

Comfortable trainers like these, I assumed, would be seventy pounds. But York Boutique sells direct, so they were £34.95 in the summer sale. I've barely had them off since.

A friend asked about them on our walk, because I was keeping up for once. They come in four colours — blue, green, beige and black — and in sizes 4 to 9.5.
