No More Hunching In The Wind

Real stories · No more hunching in the wind

Every winter I walked hunched up against the wind — this scarf finally let my shoulders down

Warm right up to the chin, and my shoulders back where they belong — that's what this scarf did for me. I'm 67, and every winter I'd walk to the bus stop with my shoulders up round my ears and my chin tucked into my collar, while the wind found the gap at the back of my neck. By the time I got home my neck and shoulders were stiff as a board, and I hadn't even done anything.

What I wanted was something that properly closed the gap at my neck without weighing me down.

On the hook over the navy coat — long enough to go round twice and still hang down.

Then I found the Corvaynne from a British label called York Boutique — a long scarf-wrap with a feather pattern in blues and purples running through a rainbow of colour, and tassels at both ends. I chose the blue; there's an orange colourway too.

It's long and wide enough to wrap twice round the neck and still tuck in, so the wind has nowhere to get in — and it's light yet warming, which is why it keeps the cold off without the weight of my old chunky scarves. With my neck warm, my shoulders simply come down, and I walk upright again instead of hunching against the weather.

Long enough to wrap twice and tuck in, light yet warming — which is why the wind can't find my neck and my shoulders finally stay down.

A proper north wind, scarf wrapped twice — and my shoulders nowhere near my ears.

At £19.95 — half the usual £40 — it's the cheapest thing that has ever made this much difference to my winter.

It has done every frosty dog walk this month and a long wait at the bus stop in a proper north wind, and Pauline said I looked 'about two inches taller' — which is what happens when your shoulders aren't round your ears. I did check before ordering that I could send it back if it didn't suit — you can, within a fortnight, and the delivery's free.

If you also walk about hunched against the cold, do have a look. The Corvaynne is rated 4.7 out of 5 by more than 260 women, it comes in the blue and an orange colourway, one generous size — and at half price it tends to sell out before Christmas.
