The comfy trainers with just a little sparkle
I'm 67, and I wanted comfortable trainers — but not the great clumpy sporty things that make me feel I'm off to the gym. I also have rather wide feet, so anything stiff or narrow rubs and pinches. What I really wanted was a comfy, roomy trainer with just a touch of prettiness, and I'd started to think that didn't exist.
The plain ones felt dull, the fashionable ones were too narrow, and my poor wide feet paid for it either way. Comfortable, roomy AND a little bit pretty seemed like asking for the moon.
Then I found the Morwenna trainers from a British label called York Boutique — crystal-embellished comfort trainers, with a wide-fit option. I chose the white, and I'm so pleased I did.
They're lovely. The upper is a soft stretchy knit that's kind to my wide feet, there's a cushioned wedge sole that's comfy and gives a little height, and they lace up for a proper fit. And they're sprinkled with tiny crystals that catch the light — just a bit of sparkle, nothing gaudy. Light as anything, too.
Cushioned and light, with the prettiest bit of sparkle. I get compliments every time.
Trainers this comfortable, I assumed, would be seventy pounds. But York Boutique sells direct, so they were £34.95 in the summer sale. I've barely had them off since.
I get a compliment nearly every time I wear them. They come in seven colours, in a normal and a wide fit, and in sizes 3 to 9.
If you'd like a comfy trainer with a little sparkle, do treat yourself to a look. The Morwenna is rated 4.8 out of 5 by more than 300 women, it's £34.95 in the summer sale instead of £70 — half price — and the middle sizes always seem to go first.
