Winter dressing used to be a daily negotiation — this three-piece ended it

Three pieces, one decision, and winter dressing stopped being a negotiation — that's what this set settled. I'm 67, and the real problem with British winter was never the cold; it's the SPAN of it. The street is freezing, the café is tropical, the church hall is somewhere lawless in between, and every morning I used to assemble a committee of separates to cope.

What I wanted was a winter outfit that came pre-assembled.

Then I found the Trivelle from a British label called York Boutique — a three-piece set in soft taupe: a long cardigan, a matching top and wide trousers, all cut from the same cloth. Mine is the taupe; there's grey, navy, burgundy, black and white as well.

The third piece is the winter trick. It was £49.95, and I did pause at that — then divided by three. Under seventeen pounds a piece, and less than half the usual £110, for what is effectively my whole winter formula. A fortnight to send it back and free delivery closed the discussion.

It has since done a café lunch, two coffee mornings and one long parish meeting in a hall with its own microclimate, adapting throughout, and at the lunch Sandra examined all three pieces and delivered her verdict: 'that's cheating.' It is. Assembled cheating.
